A Safe Space for Every Voice . . .

Cherie Calvert

CRPO RP Registered Psychotherapist,
EMDR Therapist
I bring both lived experience and professional training to my work with individuals and families, and I am currently working toward my Doctorate of Counselling Psychotherapy. Much of my academic and professional journey has focused on supporting marginalized populations and at-risk families. I hold a diploma in Police Foundations, BAs in Criminology and Psychology from Western University and the University of Windsor, and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
As an Indigenous and Irish woman, who has lived on both First Nations and in Ireland, I take a person-centred approach to therapy. I believe in the power of trust, empowerment, validation, communication, active listening, and empathy to create a safe and welcoming space where positive therapeutic relationships can grow.
My work often addresses intergenerational trauma, including experiences of domestic violence, substance use, self-harm, economic insecurity, and homelessness. I advocate for my clients while providing the tools and support needed to navigate life’s challenges and build resilience.
I am passionate about helping people find and use their own voice, and I draw on a variety of approaches—including DBT, CBT, ACT, EFFT, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)—to support self-compassion, mindfulness, and personal growth. My aim is to meet each person where they are, walking alongside them in a way that honors their story and strengths.
Above all, I believe that through open, authentic communication, therapy can be a meaningful and empowering part of your self-care practice.
Certifications: EMDR, DBT, ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy), ACT for Adolescents, Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health First Aid Facilitator, Cultural Competency Training.
